NEBRASKA PUBLIC RECORDS SEARCH

Nebraska Public Records

The statutes declare that all citizens are authorized to examine and copy public records. Some exceptions include personnel data, medical records, Social Security numbers, trade secrets, records pertaining to active investigations, and information protected by evidentiary privilege (attorney-client, physician-patient, etc.).

We’ve put together here a listing of the most popular and available online databases in Nebraska.  Feel free to use the side margin tools to access resources found in the counties, such as property records and documents, and other official records.

  • Court System - The Nebraska court system has four levels. At the first level are County Courts, which handle misdemeanors, traffic & ordinance violations, civil cases under $52,000, small claims, probate, guardianship, adoption, juvenile, and preliminary felony hearings. Second are District Courts (felony trials, domestic relations, civil over $52,000), Juvenile Courts (Douglas, Sarpy & Lancaster Counties), and the Workers Compensation Court. At the third level is the Court of Appeals, which reviews lower court decisions. At the top is the Nebraska Supreme Court, which reviews discretionary appeals from the Court of Appeals, and mandatory appeals with regard to capital cases and those concerning constitutionality of statutes.  Nebraska Court Records
  • Criminal Records - Traffic & ordinance violations and misdemeanors are handled by the County Courts. Those courts also handle juvenile cases, except in the counties of Douglas, Sarpy, and Lancaster, which have their own Juvenile Courts. Felony cases are handled by the District Courts.  Nebraska Criminal Records
