  • Court System - The Massachusetts court system has 3 levels. First are Trial Court Departments: Boston Municipal Court (contract & torts, small claims & non-prison criminal cases); District Court (misdemeanors, violations, minor felonies, small claims, civil cases under $25K); Housing Court (use of real property); Juvenile Court (youth delinquency, protection, offender, parental rights); Probate & Family Court (divorce, paternity, family, guardianship, domestic violence); Land Court (real property title registration & disputes); Superior Court (civil actions over $25K, labor disputes, medical malpractice, first degree murder & other felonies). At the second level is the Appeals Court, reviewing decisions of Trial Courts. At the third level is the Supreme Judicial Court, reviewing Appeals Court decisions.  Massachusetts Court Records
  • Criminal Records - Criminal cases are handled by 5 of the 7 Trial Court Departments. Boston Municipal Court handles criminal cases that would not result in prison sentences. The District Court handles all misdemeanors, ordinance violations, & felonies punishable by 5 years or less in prison. Superior Court has original jurisdiction on all first degree murder cases, and also handles felony cases. Juvenile Court handles youth offender matters. Massachusetts is located in the New England region of the United States. The Capital is Boston and the largest city is Boston.  The Official Web Site is located at http://www.mass.gov/portal/.  Massachusetts is the 14th most populous state in the United States.  The 2014 population estimate is 6,745,408 and the 2010 census population was 6,547,817.  The land area is 7,800.06 square miles and there are 839.4 persons per square mile.

83.2% of the population is White, 8.1% is Black or African American, 10.5% is Hispanic or Latino, 6% is Asian, 0.5% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 2.1% are two or more races. 89.4% are a high school graduate or higher, and 39.4% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $330,100. There are on average 2.51 persons per household, the per capita income is $35,763, the median household income is $66,866, and 11.4% of the persons in Massachusetts are considered below poverty level.
