  • Courts - The Louisiana court system has five levels. At the first are Mayors & Justice of the Peace Courts. The former handles disputes under $30. The latter handles civil & small claims cases under $2K. At the second are City, Parish & Magistrate Courts. These have limited jurisdiction & handle civil cases under $15K & misdemeanor, DWI/DUI, juvenile cases & preliminary hearings. At the third are: Family Court, which handles family & domestic matters; Juvenile Court; and District Court, which is the court of general jurisdiction, handling felony, misdemeanor, DWI/DUI, juvenile, & civil cases of all amounts. At the fourth are the Circuit Courts, which serve as appeals courts to review decisions from lower courts. At the top is the Supreme Court, which reviews decisions from all lower courts.  Louisiana Court Records
  • Criminal Records - Some misdemeanor and DWI/DUI cases are handled by the City and Parish Courts. Others are handled by the District Courts, which also try felony and criminal juvenile cases.  Complete statewide Louisiana criminal histories are not available online, by state law. Louisiana is located in the southern region of the United States. The Capital is Baton Rouge and the largest city is New Orleans.  The Official Web Site is located at http://louisiana.gov/.  Louisiana is the 25th most populous state in the United States.  The 2014 population estimate is 4,649,676 and the 2010 census population was 4,533,479.  The land area is 43,203.90 square miles and there are 104.9 persons per square mile.

63.5% of the population is White, 32.4% is Black or African American, 4.7% is Hispanic or Latino, 1.7% is Asian, 0.8% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.5% are two or more races. 82.6% are a high school graduate or higher, and 21.8% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $138,900. There are on average 2.60 persons per household, the per capita income is $24,442, the median household income is $44,874, and 19.1% of the persons in Louisiana are considered below poverty level.
