Pearl River County is located in south-central Mississippi.  The County Seat is Poplarville and the largest city is Picayune.  The Official Web Site is located at http://www.pearlrivercounty.net/.  The 2014 population estimate is 55,224 and the 2010 census population was 55,747.  The land area is 810.86 square miles and there are 68.9 persons per square mile.

84.5% of the population is White, 12.6% is Black or African American, 3.1% is Hispanic or Latino, 0.5% is Asian, 0.6% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.7% is two or more races.  83.2% have a high school degree or higher, and 13.2% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $111,600, there are 20,556 households, an average of 2.65 persons per household.  The per capita income is $20,549,  the median household income is $42,510, and 22.2% of the persons in Pearl River County are considered below poverty level.

The total number of firms, at last estimate, was 5,224.  Retail sales (in $1000) were $615,612, and sales per capita were $10,779.
