23.4% of the population is White, 75.1% is Black or African American, 1.4% is Hispanic or Latino, 0.6% is Asian, 0.1% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 0.7% is two or more races.  76.6% have a high school degree or higher, and 17.5% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $55,600, there are 9,464 households, an average of 2.66 persons per household.  The per capita income is $15,742,  the median household income is $26,407, and 38.2% of the persons in Coahoma County are considered below poverty level.

The total number of firms, at last estimate, was 2,027.  Retail sales (in $1000) were $260,323, and sales per capita were $9,448.  The percentage of black-owned firms is 33%, and the percentage of women-owned firms is 27.5%.
