70.4% of the population is White, 28.1% is Black or African American, 5.7% is Hispanic or Latino, 0.1% is Asian, 0.2% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.1% is two or more races.  68.2% have a high school degree or higher, and 9.5% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $61,500, there are 5,944 households, an average of 2.46 persons per household.  The per capita income is $17,034,  the median household income is $30,000, and 23.7% of the persons in Calhoun County are considered below poverty level.
