84.6% of the population is White, 3.3% is Black or African American, 16.2% is Hispanic or Latino, 1.5% is Asian, 7% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 3.6% is two or more races.  85% have a high school degree or higher, and 27.8% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $110,600, there are 10,562 households, an average of 2.51 persons per household.  The per capita income is $23,261,  the median household income is $44,972, and 19.1% of the persons in Custer County are considered below poverty level.
