  • Court System - In 1995 the county courts were merged with the district courts for all of North Dakota. As such the district courts maintain all county court information.  There are 53 district courts and 76 municipal courts. The ND State Court service will allow a search of district court cases and a limited number of municipal courts, but not all districts contribute records.  North Dakota Court Records
  • Criminal Records - Felony, misdemeanor, DUI, and juvenile cases are handled at the district court level. Some DUI/DWI cases are handled at the municipal court level.  If you would like a full statewide criminal history search of records filed since 1930, you may contact the Attorney General, but you need to have consent from the person being searched.  An alternative is to use the State Court service that will allow a search of limited district court cases and a limited number of municipal courts.  For more information and links to available databases online, visit our North Dakota Criminal Records page.
  • Vital Records - Available from: North Dakota Division of Vital Records, State Capitol, 600 East Boulevard Avenue, Department 301, Bismarck, ND 58505, (701) 328-3260, (701) 328-1850 fax.  Visit our Vital Records page to access the ND Department of Health Public Death Index, the Social Security Death Index for North Dakota, obituaries, and county deaths; two small local marriage databases; the ND State Court database for divorce cases. We have not yet found a free online birth record database for the state.  If you find one, please let us know and we will add it. North Dakota is located in the upper midwest region of the United States. The Capital is Bismarck and the largest city is Fargo.  The Official Web Site is located at  North Dakota is the 47th most populous state in the United States.  The 2014 population estimate is 739,482 and the 2010 census population was 672,591.  The land area is 69,000.80 square miles and there are 9.7 persons per square mile.

89.6% of the population is White, 1.8% is Black or African American, 2.9% is Hispanic or Latino, 1.2% is Asian, 5.4% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.9% are two or more races. 90.9% are a high school graduate or higher, and 27.2% have a Bachelor degree or higher.
