Bent County is located in south-eastern Colorado.  The County Seat is Las Animas and the largest city is Las Animas.  The Official Web Site is located at http://bentcounty.org/about-3/.  The 2014 population estimate is 5,630 and the 2010 census population was 6,499.  The land area is 1,512.86 square miles and there are 4.3 persons per square mile.

86.9% of the population is White, 6.8% is Black or African American, 31.1% is Hispanic or Latino, 1.1% is Asian, 3.4% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.7% is two or more races.  79.4% have a high school degree or higher, and 8.8% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $75,500, there are 1,873 households, an average of 2.17 persons per household.  The per capita income is $15,081,  the median household income is $37,340, and 19.1% of the persons in Bent County are considered below poverty level.
