Wood County is located in the East Texas Region of Texas.  The County Seat is Quitman and the largest city is Mineola.    The 2014 population estimate is 42,852 and the 2010 census population was 41,961.  The land area is 645.23 square miles and there are 65 persons per square mile.

92.1% of the population is White, 4.9% is Black or African American, 9.3% is Hispanic or Latino, 0.6% is Asian, 1% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.3% is two or more races.  83.4% have a high school degree or higher, and 17% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $99,900, there are 15,800 households, an average of 2.56 persons per household.  The per capita income is $23,129,  the median household income is $43,649, and 14.6% of the persons in Wood County are considered below poverty level.

The total number of firms, at last estimate, was 4,616.  Retail sales (in $1000) were $383,490, and sales per capita were $9,072.  The percentage of black-owned firms is 0%, and the percentage of women-owned firms is 25.3%.
