Walker County is located in the Upper Gulf Coast Region of Texas.  The County Seat is Huntsville and the largest city is Huntsville.    The 2014 population estimate is 69,789 and the 2010 census population was 67,861.  The land area is 784.17 square miles and there are 86.5 persons per square mile.

73.8% of the population is White, 22.8% is Black or African American, 17.5% is Hispanic or Latino, 1.1% is Asian, 0.8% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.4% is two or more races.  81.7% have a high school degree or higher, and 17.9% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $109,900, there are 20,558 households, an average of 2.26 persons per household.  The per capita income is $16,330,  the median household income is $37,617, and 26% of the persons in Walker County are considered below poverty level.
