Liberty County

Liberty County is located in the Upper Gulf Coast Region of Texas.  The County Seat is Liberty and the largest city is Liberty.    The 2014 population estimate is 78,117 and the 2010 census population was 75,643.  The land area is 1,158.42 square miles and there are 65.3 persons per square mile.

85.8% of the population is White, 10.9% is Black or African American, 19.7% is Hispanic or Latino, 0.7% is Asian, 1% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.5% is two or more races.  75.1% have a high school degree or higher, and 8.8% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $84,400, there are 24,844 households, an average of 2.82 persons per household.  The per capita income is $19,740,  the median household income is $47,228, and 18.4% of the persons in Liberty County are considered below poverty level.

The total number of firms, at last estimate, was 5,296.  Retail sales (in $1000) were $653,043, and sales per capita were $8,729.
