Lamar County is located in the East Texas Region of Texas.  The County Seat is Paris and the largest city is Paris.    The 2014 population estimate is 49,523 and the 2010 census population was 49,789.  The land area is 907.19 square miles and there are 54.9 persons per square mile.

81.5% of the population is White, 13.5% is Black or African American, 7.1% is Hispanic or Latino, 0.7% is Asian, 1.6% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 2.6% is two or more races.  83.1% have a high school degree or higher, and 16.5% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $85,300, there are 19,416 households, an average of 2.50 persons per household.  The per capita income is $21,468,  the median household income is $40,104, and 19.1% of the persons in Lamar County are considered below poverty level.
