Houston County is located in the East Texas Region of Texas.  The County Seat is Crockett and the largest city is Crockett.    The 2014 population estimate is 22,741 and the 2010 census population was 23,732.  The land area is 1,230.91 square miles and there are 19.3 persons per square mile.

71.5% of the population is White, 26.1% is Black or African American, 10.9% is Hispanic or Latino, 0.6% is Asian, 0.6% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.1% is two or more races.  80.6% have a high school degree or higher, and 14.8% have a Bachelor degree or higher.
