Union County

Union County is located in southwestern Illinois.  The County Seat is Jonesboro and the largest city is Anna.  The Official Web Site is located at http://www.unioncountyil.gov/.  The 2014 population estimate is 17,447 and the 2010 census population was 17,808.  The land area is 413.46 square miles and there are 43.1 persons per square mile.

96.3% of the population is White, 1.1% is Black or African American, 5.1% is Hispanic or Latino, 0.5% is Asian, 0.7% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.4% is two or more races.  83.9% have a high school degree or higher, and 20.1% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $87,500, there are 6,852 households, an average of 2.47 persons per household.  The per capita income is $21,719,  the median household income is $41,848, and 19.5% of the persons in Union County are considered below poverty level.

The total number of firms, at last estimate, was 1,445.  Retail sales (in $1000) were $145,142, and sales per capita were $8,009.
