79.5% of the population is White, 17.6% is Black or African American, 4% is Hispanic or Latino, 0.6% is Asian, 0.3% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.8% is two or more races.  79% have a high school degree or higher, and 18% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $120,800, there are 5,201 households, an average of 2.80 persons per household.  The per capita income is $20,493,  the median household income is $45,729, and 16.4% of the persons in Oglethorpe County are considered below poverty level.
