Hernando County is located in west-central Florida.  The County Seat is Brooksville and the largest city is Spring Hill.  The Official Web Site is located at http://www.co.hernando.fl.us/.  The 2014 population estimate is 175,855 and the 2010 census population was 172,777.  The land area is 472.54 square miles and there are 365.6 persons per square mile.

90.8% of the population is White, 5.5% is Black or African American, 11.1% is Hispanic or Latino, 1.4% is Asian, 0.4% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.8% is two or more races.  86.5% have a high school degree or higher, and 15.5% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $117,400, there are 70,210 households, an average of 2.44 persons per household.  The per capita income is $21,411,  the median household income is $41,024, and 15.4% of the persons in Hernando County are considered below poverty level.

The total number of firms, at last estimate, was 13,476.  Retail sales (in $1000) were $1,654,088, and sales per capita were $9,789.  The percentage of black-owned firms is 3.6%, and the percentage of women-owned firms is 26.6%.
