67.2% of the population is White, 30.9% is Black or African American, 2.6% is Hispanic or Latino, 0.3% is Asian, 0.3% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.2% is two or more races.  79.9% have a high school degree or higher, and 15.4% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $112,600, there are 9,936 households, an average of 2.73 persons per household.  The per capita income is $20,431,  the median household income is $41,494, and 18.5% of the persons in Tate County are considered below poverty level.

The total number of firms, at last estimate, was 2,107.  Retail sales (in $1000) were $237,674, and sales per capita were $8,833.  The percentage of black-owned firms is 19.1%, and the percentage of women-owned firms is 32.5%.
