1) Free searches - listed below. Wisconsin provides free access to a number of good criminal record databases. We recommend starting with the resource below titled “Circuit Court Criminal Case Search” to check statewide or by county for criminal court cases. Also available below are Department of Corrections inmates; statewide registered offenders; federal inmates; federal criminal court records (through the inexpensive PACER system); and arrest, inmate, police report, and criminal court record databases from available cities and counties.
2) Wisconsin Crime Information Bureau. Click on the resource below titled “Criminal Histories – CIB” and order a criminal record search of arrests and convictions from 1971 to present from the Wisconsin Crime Information Bureau. This system is designed to allow customers to check their own records, or check the records of applicants (if you are an employer). Searches can be ordered online or by mail. Results are not immediate in either case. Cost is $7 per general search ordered online, or $10 for a daycare or caregiver background check. For mail or fax requests, the cost is $12. The CIB search does not include federal records, so we recommend also doing a federal inmate search and a PACER federal court record search. Both types are outlined in option 1 above.
