1) Free searches – listed below. You may do your own non-certified searches using databases listed below that are provided by the State of North Carolina. The “Criminal and Traffic Court Pending Cases” resource searches pending court records in all counties. “Criminal Court Calendars” provides a resource to view current court calendars for any county in North Carolina. There are five inmate databases listed, and of those four are provided by the Department of Corrections. Use them to search for current and past inmates, probationers, and parolees, as well as inmate escapes and releases. We also provide a link to the Federal Bureau of Prisons where you may search for inmates incarcerated in North Carolina or search for Federal inmates from the State of North Carolina.
2) Certified criminal background checks. If you'd like to obtain a certified criminal background check on yourself or someone else, the North Carolina Court System recommends that you contact the Clerk of Superior Court for a particular county and you may search records and obtain certification for that county only. The fee is $25. Use the link below that says “Criminal Background Check Information.” There you’ll also find information on how to do a non-certified check of statewide records through the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). SBI searches required a fingerprint card and a $14 fee. For more information on fingerprint searches call the SBI at (919) 662-4500, extension 6336 or 6359.
