New Jersey

New Jersey has a limited jurisdiction court, general jurisdiction trial courts, and two appellate courts. The appellate courts consist of the Appellate Division of Superior Court, and the New Jersey Supreme Court.

The Municipal Court is the limited jurisdiction court. It handles motor vehicle offenses, misdemeanors, and other violations.

The Superior Court is the general jurisdiction trial court. It handles misdemeanors, felonies, juvenile matters, civil cases, and family cases (disputes involving children, parents, and spouses). New Jersey also has a Tax Court, to review decisions of county boards of taxation and the State Division of Taxation.

New Jersey does not make Superior or Municipal Court records available online. Contact the court clerk for copies of those court records.
