Mecklenburg County is located in south central Virginia.  The County Seat is Boydton and the largest city is South Hill.  The Official Web Site is located at http://www.mecklenburgva.com/.  The 2014 population estimate is 31,192 and the 2010 census population was 32,727.  The land area is 625.49 square miles and there are 52.3 persons per square mile.

61.9% of the population is White, 35.2% is Black or African American, 2.6% is Hispanic or Latino, 1% is Asian, 0.3% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.6% is two or more races.  76.9% have a high school degree or higher, and 13.7% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $120,900, there are 12,650 households, an average of 2.42 persons per household.  The per capita income is $20,056,  the median household income is $36,261, and 19.6% of the persons in Mecklenburg County are considered below poverty level.

The total number of firms, at last estimate, was 2,453.  Retail sales (in $1000) were $406,322, and sales per capita were $12,684.  The percentage of black-owned firms is 9.1%, and the percentage of women-owned firms is 29.7%.
