In Maine, there are non-jury trial courts, jury trial courts, a probate court, and an appellate court. The appellate court is the Maine Supreme Court.

The District Court is responsible for non-jury civil and criminal matters. It includes six focus courts: the Family Division; Small Claims of $6,000 or less; the Violations Bureau to handle traffic infractions; Drug Court for drug testing, supervision, treatment, and sanctions; the Business & Consumer Court for certain business and consumer disputes; and the Unified Criminal Docket in Cumberland County and Penobscot County.

The Superior Court handles all criminal & civil jury trials, as well as appeals regarding decisions of state and local administrative agencies.  Maine also has county Probate Courts to deal with estates, wills, and guardianship issues.

Maine does not provide civil and criminal court records available online. Contact the clerk of the court for case information. Below we have listed resources for other types of records.
