Wyoming Public Records

Exceptions listed in the Act include investigative records, test questions, property appraisals, interagency memoranda, emergency procedures, data revealing schematics & security systems, medical records, adoption records, trade secrets, library patron records, and records otherwise protected by law.

In the lower portion of this page, we have organized the most commonly sought statewide resources in Wyoming.  Use the menus in the blue box to find other records by category, or in lower jurisdictions.

  • Court System - The Wyoming court system has four levels. At the first level are the Municipal Courts, which are responsible for traffic and city ordinance violations. At the second level are the Circuit Courts, which handle misdemeanors, civil cases up to $7,000, family violence cases, felony preliminary hearings, and ordinance violations at the request of a municipality. Third are the District Courts, which the trial courts of general jurisdiction. District Courts handle felony cases, civil cases over $7,000, juvenile cases, and probate matters. At the fourth level is the Supreme Court of Wyoming, which hears appeals from the District Courts and lower courts.  Wyoming Court Records
  • Criminal Records - Infractions and violations are handled by Municipal Courts, while misdemeanors are handled by Circuit Courts. Felony cases are heard in the District Courts. Wyoming does not currently make Municipal, Circuit, or District Court criminal records available online. Contact the Clerk of Court directly for information about record searches. Wyoming is located in the Northern Rocky Mountains Area. The Capital is Cheyenne and the largest city is Cheyenne.  The Official Web Site is located at http://www.wyo.gov/.  Wyoming is the 50th most populous state in the United States.  The 2014 population estimate is 584,153 and the 2010 census population was 563,767.  The land area is 97,093.14 square miles and there are 5.8 persons per square mile.

92.7% of the population is White, 1.7% is Black or African American, 9.7% is Hispanic or Latino, 0.9% is Asian, 2.6% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.9% are two or more races. 92.4% are a high school graduate or higher, and 24.7% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $185,900. There are on average 2.50 persons per household, the per capita income is $28,902, the median household income is $57,406, and 11.5% of the persons in Wyoming are considered below poverty level.
