Some exceptions are medical records, personnel records, trade secrets, personal financial records, law enforcement investigation records, records protected by attorney/client relationship, child custody & adoption records, security plans by military & law enforcement agencies, labor negotiation strategy reports or notes, and library records of borrowers.

  • Court System - The Rhode Island court system has four levels. At the first level is the Traffic Tribunal, which handles civil traffic offenses and has its own Appeals Division. The Court for Workers Compensation and the District Court are at the second level. The latter handles civil cases under $5,000 and shares jurisdiction with the Superior Court for cases between $5,000 and $10,000. The District Court also handles small claims, misdemeanors, and arraignments for felony cases. At the third level are the Family Court, which handles cases involving children and families; and the Superior Court, which handles felony cases, civil cases exceeding $10,000, and appeals from the District Court. At the top is the Rhode Island Supreme Court, which reviews decisions from all lower courts.  Rhode Island Court Records
  • Criminal Records - Misdemeanors are handled by the District Court. The Family Court handles juvenile criminal cases. Felonies are handled by the Superior Court. Rhode Island is located in the New England region of the United States. The Capital is Providence and the largest city is Providence.  The Official Web Site is located at http://www.ri.gov/index.php.  Rhode Island is the 43rd most populous state in the United States.  The 2014 population estimate is 1,055,173 and the 2010 census population was 1,052,931.  The land area is 1,033.81 square miles and there are 1018.1 persons per square mile.

85.6% of the population is White, 7.5% is Black or African American, 13.6% is Hispanic or Latino, 3.3% is Asian, 0.9% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.2% is Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 2.5% are two or more races. 85.2% are a high school graduate or higher, and 31.3% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $247,400. There are on average 2.46 persons per household, the per capita income is $30,469, the median household income is $56,361, and 13.6% of the persons in Rhode Island are considered below poverty level.
