82.6% of the population is White, 15.2% is Black or African American, 6.1% is Hispanic or Latino, 0.3% is Asian, 0.6% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.3% is two or more races.  76.4% have a high school degree or higher, and 12% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $80,000, there are 9,937 households, an average of 3.01 persons per household.  The per capita income is $18,576,  the median household income is $39,899, and 14% of the persons in Pontotoc County are considered below poverty level.
