62.8% of the population is White, 35.7% is Black or African American, 2.1% is Hispanic or Latino, 0.2% is Asian, 0.2% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 0.9% is two or more races.  76.5% have a high school degree or higher, and 14.2% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $71,800, there are 7,036 households, an average of 2.73 persons per household.  The per capita income is $17,241,  the median household income is $33,381, and 29.9% of the persons in Covington County are considered below poverty level.

The total number of firms, at last estimate, was 1,495.  Retail sales (in $1000) were $171,612, and sales per capita were $8,453.  The percentage of black-owned firms is 12.3%, and the percentage of women-owned firms is 20.1%.
