Rhode Island has a Traffic Tribunal, a Court for Workers Compensation, a District Court, a Family Court, a Superior Court, and a sole appeals court, the Rhode Island Supreme Court.

The Traffic Tribunal handles civil traffic offenses. The Court for Workers Compensation deals with workplace injury cases. The District Court is responsible for civil cases under $5,000, small claims, misdemeanors, and arraignments for felony cases. The Family Court handles cases involving children, parents, and spouses. The Superior Court oversees felony cases, civil cases exceeding $10,000, and appeals from the District Court. The five Rhode Island counties are divided into four Superior Court jurisdictions: Kent, Washington, Newport, and Providence/Bristol.
