In Nevada, there are limited jurisdiction courts, general jurisdiction trial courts, and a single appellate court, the Nevada Supreme Court.
Limited jurisdiction courts include Municipal Courts and Justice Courts. Municipal Courts are responsible for civil matters up to $3,500, misdemeanors, and traffic violations & infractions. Justice Courts handle civil cases up to $10,000, small claims, misdemeanors, and felony preliminary hearings.
The District Courts are the general jurisdiction trial courts. They try civil cases over $10,000, and criminal felony and misdemeanor cases.
