Nassau County

Nassau County is located in on Long Island in southeastern New York.  The County Seat is Mineola and the largest city is Hempstead.  The Official Web Site is located at http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/.  The 2014 population estimate is 1,358,627 and the 2010 census population was 1,339,710.  The land area is 284.72 square miles and there are 4704.8 persons per square mile.

76.7% of the population is White, 12.4% is Black or African American, 15.7% is Hispanic or Latino, 8.7% is Asian, 0.5% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.6% is two or more races.  90.2% have a high school degree or higher, and 41.5% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $454,500, there are 441,955 households, an average of 2.99 persons per household.  The per capita income is $42,400,  the median household income is $97,690, and 6% of the persons in Nassau County are considered below poverty level.

The total number of firms, at last estimate, was 167,931.  Retail sales (in $1000) were $24,312,618, and sales per capita were $17,969.  The percentage of black-owned firms is 6.4%, and the percentage of women-owned firms is 25.9%.
