Athens-Clarke County is located in north-central Georgia.  The consolidated government was formed by the City of Athens and Clarke County, and is governed the the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government.  The Official Web Site is located at http://www.athensclarkecounty.com/.  The 2014 population estimate is 120,938 and the 2010 census population was 116,707.  The land area is 119.20 square miles and there are 979.1 persons per square mile.

66% of the population is White, 27.3% is Black or African American, 10.7% is Hispanic or Latino, 4.3% is Asian, 0.4% is American Indian or Alaska Native, 0.1% is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 1.9% is two or more races.  85.1% have a high school degree or higher, and 39.5% have a Bachelor degree or higher.

The median home value is $156,600, there are 41,358 households, an average of 2.61 persons per household.  The per capita income is $19,295,  the median household income is $33,060, and 36.7% of the persons in Athens-Clarke County are considered below poverty level.

The total number of firms, at last estimate, was 10,181.  Retail sales (in $1000) were $1,669,122, and sales per capita were $14,711.  The percentage of black-owned firms is 0%, and the percentage of women-owned firms is 26%.
